General Auditions Information

Opportunity and Support

 The Pittsburgh Concert Society provides a recital performance opportunity and financial support to talented classical musicians—an opportunity found in few American cities. Recitalists are chosen through auditions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, arranged by Pittsburgh Concert Society, and judged by an independent adjudicator from another area of the country.

Categories
Recitalists are chosen by audition in one of three different categories:

Major Auditions
Young Artist Auditions
Young Organist Auditions

Individuals or small ensembles, such as string quartet, piano trio, or percussion ensemble may audition.

Application Dates for Young Artist Auditions
Applications are accepted online or through US Mail from September 1 through December 15.

Application Dates for Major Auditions
Applications are accepted online or through US Mail from September 1 through March 31.

Application Dates for Young Organists Auditions
Applications are accepted online or though US Mail September 1 through March 15.

Apply Early
The Pittsburgh Concert Society reservers the right to limit the number of Young Artist applicants to 35 and the Major Audition applicants to 40, in the order the applications are received. Additional applicants may be placed on a waitlist; updates and status of application numbers are posted posted on the News section of this website.

Audition Dates
Audition dates are announced in the specific Information links at the bottom of this page for each category.

Residency
All applicants must live or study music within a 75-mile radius of Pittsburgh.

Age Restrictions for Major Auditions:
 None.

Age Restrcitions for Young Artists (Instrumentalists):
18 years or younger as of June 30 of the year of audition.

Age Restrictions for Young Artists (Singers):
21 years or younger as of June 30 of the year of audition/

Age Restrictions for Young Organists:
22 years or younger as of June 30 of the year of audition.

Program
The program prepared for the audition is expected to be the same program for the recital.

Fee
 An non-refundable application fee must be included with your audition application. The fee is $50 for Major Auditions, and $35 for Young Artist Auditions and Young Organist Auditions. For complete audition requirements and application forms, choose one of the following links:
