1. Applicants must live, or study music, within a 75 mile radius of Pittsburgh. 2. Applicants must provide their own accompanists. Acceptable performers will be disqualified for having incompetent accompanists. 3. Applicants must submit a program of about 30 minutes in length. Consideration should be given to a musically well balanced program . 4. Applicants must show a high degree of musical taste and discrimination in their programs. The importance of this cannot be over-emphasized. Singers must include at least two foreign language selections in addition to the English. The Society is interested in American (US) composers and requires that all candidates include at least one American composition. 5. Winners cannot change the audition program for concert performance. 6. With their application, applicants must submit their program typed on a separate sheet. Each selection must be listed with its title, key, opus, movement(s), full name and dates of the composer, and performance duration. Please DO NOT write your name on your program sheet. The Society reserves the right to reject an application because of inadequate programming. SAMPLE PROGRAM 7. Ensembles must adhere to geographic and program requirements as stated above. 8. All candidates will be heard on either the first or the second day of the auditions. The Society reserves the right to limit the number of applications to the first forty (40) received. 9. Winners will be notified on the evening of the last day of auditions. 10. Each winner, upon completion of his/her performance, shall receive one of the Pittsburgh Concert Society's honoraria. 11. Winners of the Pittsburgh Concert Society major auditions are ineligible to compete again in the same category. Winners shall be notified on the evening of the auditions.
